FAQ
What is the best sealer for a garage floor?
None of the clear sealers here is made for garage floors. Rust-Oleum says Okon Seal & Finish is not recommended for driveways or garages and that chemicals in some car tires may cause the coating to lift. For a garage slab, seal the cracks and joints with Loctite PL S20, DAP AMP Self-Leveling or Sika Self-Leveling Sealant, which their makers list for garages.
How do I seal a cracked driveway or sidewalk?
Clean the crack, add closed-cell backer rod if it is deeper than 1/2 in, then fill with a self-leveling sealant such as Loctite PL S20, DAP AMP Self-Leveling or Sika Self-Leveling Sealant. All three are for horizontal surfaces only.
Will these stop water coming through a basement wall?
Zinsser says WaterTite stops up to 34 psi of water pressure and is ideal for interior basement walls. Okon W-2 and Seal-Krete Original do not stop hydrostatic pressure, and Seal-Krete is not for below-grade use. See Masonry & Block Waterproofers.
Do I need to etch concrete before sealing?
It depends on the product. Rust-Oleum says Okon Seal & Finish does not require acid etching. Valspar says to clean, degrease and etch bare concrete before its Concrete Bonding Primer.
