Shipping & Orders
What is your free shipping threshold?
Free standard ground shipping on all orders $75 and over. No code needed - it is applied automatically at checkout. Orders under $75 ship at a flat rate calculated at checkout.
How long does shipping take?
Most in-stock items ship within 1-2 business days. Supplier-fulfilled items (products shipped directly from our vendor) take 2-4 business days to process. Once shipped, standard ground delivery takes 3-7 business days depending on your location. You will get a tracking number by email as soon as your order ships.
Do you ship to all US states?
We ship to all 48 contiguous US states. We currently do not ship to Hawaii, Alaska, or internationally. Some aerosol and hazmat items have air shipping restrictions - these will be noted on the product page.
Can I get expedited shipping?
Yes. Expedited shipping options are available at checkout. Note that some products (aerosols and certain specialty coatings) cannot ship via air due to hazmat regulations - those will only show ground options at checkout.
How do I track my order?
You will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking number when your order ships. If you have not received it within 3 business days, check your spam folder first, then email us and we will look it up for you.
Returns & Exchanges
What is your return policy?
We accept returns within 30 days of delivery on unused, unopened items in original packaging. Opened paint and finishes cannot be returned due to health and safety regulations - if you are unsure whether a product is right for your project, ask us before ordering.
Who pays return shipping?
If you are returning an item because you changed your mind or ordered the wrong thing, return shipping is on you. If we sent the wrong item or it arrived damaged, we will cover the return shipping and make it right. No restocking fee on standard returns.
What if my item arrived damaged or incorrect?
Email us at store@projectweekenddiy.com within 7 days of delivery with a photo of the damage or the incorrect item. We will sort it out - replacement, exchange, or refund, whichever makes the most sense.
How long do refunds take?
Once we receive your return and confirm the item is in original condition, refunds are processed within 5 business days back to your original payment method.
Products & Advice
Can I use General Finishes Milk Paint for kitchen cabinets?
Yes - with the right topcoat. General Finishes Milk Paint on its own is not durable enough for cabinets. You need to apply 2-3 coats of General Finishes High Performance Topcoat (water-based) over the paint once it is dry. Use the flat or satin sheen topcoat for a painted-on look, or gloss if you want more durability. This combination is one of the most popular cabinet refinishing setups we carry, and it holds up well with proper surface prep.
What primer should I use before painting cabinets?
For cabinets, we recommend Zinsser BIN Shellac-Based Primer or Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3. BIN is the gold standard - it seals knots, tannins, and stains, and bonds to slick surfaces that regular primers skip right over. If your cabinets are in good shape with no stain bleed risk, Bulls Eye 1-2-3 is a solid water-based option that is easier to clean up. Either way, scuff-sand the surface first and clean it thoroughly before priming.
What is the best deck stain for a weathered deck?
For a deck that is weathered, gray, or been neglected for a few seasons, we recommend Messmers UV Plus. It is a penetrating oil-based formula that goes deep into the wood grain instead of sitting on top - which means it will not peel or flake the way film-forming stains do. Prep is everything: strip the old finish, clean and brighten the wood, let it dry fully, then apply. Messmers in a semi-transparent tone will bring the wood back to life.
Do you offer samples?
Some General Finishes Milk Paint colors are available in sample sizes - check the product listing for the quart or pint option. For other products, we are unable to offer smaller sizes than what is listed. If you are unsure about a color or product, email us and we will give you our honest recommendation before you order a full size.
What is the difference between your stocked items and supplier-fulfilled items?
Some products ship directly from our storage to your door - these are items we keep on hand in our own inventory. Other items are fulfilled by our vendor partner and shipped from their warehouse, which can add 1-2 days to processing time. Either way, you will get a tracking number and the same quality products. When in doubt about timing on a specific item, email us and we can confirm.
