About Masonry & Block Waterproofers

Zinsser WaterTite: oil-based waterproofing paint for interior and exterior concrete, stucco, cement, cinder block and other masonry. Zinsser says it is ideal for interior basement walls, stops up to 34 psi of water pressure, and is not recommended for foot traffic.
Okon W-2: clear, breathable silane-siloxane water repellent for porous surfaces such as medium and normal weight CMU, rough stucco, blasted concrete and concrete brick. Not for glazed or non-porous surfaces.
Seal-Krete Original: penetrating clear satin primer/sealer for above-grade vertical surfaces, or as a primer on horizontal surfaces. Not for below-grade use.

Let new masonry cure: 28 days before Okon W-2, and at least 30 days before WaterTite.
Clean: Okon W-2 goes on surfaces that are unsealed, clean (free of dirt, waxes and oils) and sound. Savogran Liquid TSP Substitute is a cleaner Savogran lists for concrete.
Kill mold and mildew: Zinsser says to remove it with 1 cup of household bleach per gallon of water or a mildew cleaner.
Remove efflorescence: Zinsser says the white powdery deposit must come off before WaterTite.
Patch first: Zinsser says all holes and cracks, especially active water leaks, must be patched before WaterTite. For dry cracks in walls, see Concrete Crack & Joint Repair.
