This brand collection covers these Messmer's lines: UV Plus penetrating stain in transparent and semi-transparent colors, UV Plus Clear Weathering Formula, UV Plus for Hardwood Decks, Caribbean Extreme Teak Oil Finish, Timberflex Log Home Finish and Exterior Clear topcoat, tintable Deck & Siding Stain neutral base, and Wood & Deck Cleaner (Part A) and Brightener (Part B). UV Plus, UV Plus for Hardwood Decks, and Caribbean Extreme are penetrating finishes that do not form a surface film when applied correctly, so a recoat is clean (and brighten if needed) and reapply, with no stripping or sanding. Timberflex is the film-forming system in the line.

Notes (Messmer's product pages / technical data) |
| UV Plus (transparent and semi-transparent colors) |
Cedar, pine, redwood, and other exterior softwood decks, fences, siding, log homes |
Transparent tones such as Natural, Natural Cedar, Natural Redwood, Natural Pine/Fir, and Natural Sequoia; semi-transparent colors such as Oak Brown, Lake Brown, Colorado Brown, Oxford Brown, Dark Walnut, Navajo Red, and Driftwood Gray. Oil-based penetrating finish with transparent iron oxide pigments; one coat for most jobs, wipe off what has not soaked in after 30 to 60 minutes; about 150 to 250 sq ft/gal smooth, 100 to 150 rough; 24 hours dry in good conditions |
| UV Plus Clear Weathering Formula |
Exterior wood where you want a clear, unpigmented look |
Messmer's notes that clears with no pigment do not give color retention; for a natural look that holds color it suggests a transparent tone matched to the wood (Natural Cedar, Natural Redwood, Natural Pine/Fir) |
| UV Plus for Hardwood Decks |
Ipe, mahogany, Brazilian redwood, massaranduba, meranti, teak, and other dense exotic hardwoods |
Natural and Red Mahogany; penetrating oil and alkyd blend; about 200 to 300 sq ft/gal smooth, 150 to 250 rough; 250 VOC (MHV) version <250 g/L |
| Caribbean Extreme Teak Oil Finish |
Teak, ipe, mahogany, and other exotic hardwood decks and furniture |
Three UV absorbers and stabilizers plus natural oils, modified tung and phenolic resins; one coat for most jobs; about 250 to 400 sq ft/gal smooth, 200 to 250 rough; <250 g/L VOC; Messmer's expects 1 to 2 years on hardwoods |
| Timberflex Log Home Finish + Exterior Clear |

Flexible, film-forming alkyd finish; on bare wood use at least three coats (two color coats, then Exterior Clear Gloss or Satin); 24 hours between coats; 200 to 250 sq ft/gal first coat; TF series <275 g/L VOC |
| Deck & Siding Stain (Neutral Base) |
Decks, porches, siding, fences, and trim in custom colors |
Tintable alkyd/oil finish from semi-transparent to solid; not factory tinted and must be tinted with an approved colorant system before use; DSO-10 <550 g/L, CDSO-10 lower-VOC base <250 g/L; about 250 to 400 sq ft/gal smooth |
| Wood & Deck Cleaner (Part A) and Brightener (Part B) |
Prep before any Messmer's finish |
Powder concentrates; Part A cleans gray or dirty wood, Part B removes tannin stains on redwood and some cedars; let wood dry 24 to 48 hours before finishing |
Prep: Clean gray or dirty wood with Messmer's Wood & Deck Cleaner (Part A). For tannin stains on redwood and some cedars, follow with Messmer's Wood & Deck Brightener (Part B), rinse thoroughly, and let the wood dry 24 to 48 hours before staining. Apply between about 45°F and 90°F surface temperature (Messmer's lists 50°F to 90°F for Timberflex), out of direct sun on hot days, with no rain expected for 24 to 48 hours.
Color help: Wood age and porosity change how color reads. Transparent tones such as Natural Cedar, Natural Redwood, and Natural Pine/Fir keep more grain showing; semi-transparent colors such as Oak Brown, Colorado Brown, Lake Brown, Dark Walnut, and Navajo Red add more color. See our best deck stain colors guide for side-by-side picks.

FAQ
Which Messmer's finish is right for my wood?
Per Messmer's: UV Plus for cedar, pine, redwood, and other softwoods; UV Plus for Hardwood Decks or Caribbean Extreme for ipe, mahogany, teak, and other dense hardwoods; Timberflex for log homes and timber frames where you want a varnished look; and Deck & Siding Stain when you need a custom tinted color up to solid.
How many coats of Messmer's UV Plus?
Messmer's says one coat is sufficient for most applications. Remove product that has not penetrated within 30 to 60 minutes so it does not leave a shiny, tacky surface.
How many coats of Timberflex?
On bare wood Messmer's calls for at least three coats: two color coats followed by Exterior Clear in gloss or satin, with at least 24 hours between coats in good drying conditions. Caulk cracks and joints first, because Timberflex will not bridge them.
Do I need Part A and Part B every time?
Always clean dirty or gray wood with Part A (or another quality wood cleaner) before staining. Use Part B brightener when you need to remove tannin stains on redwood or some cedars. Let wood dry 24 to 48 hours after rinsing.
What VOC levels do Messmer's products come in?
Messmer's technical data lists UV Plus in MC/MS (<450 g/L), CMC/CMS 250 VOC (<250 g/L), and LMC/LMS (<100 g/L) versions. Listings marked 250 VOC are the <250 g/L formulas. Caribbean Extreme is <250 g/L, Timberflex color coats are <275 g/L, and Deck & Siding comes in DSO-10 (<550 g/L) and lower-VOC CDSO-10 (<250 g/L) bases. Check your local VOC rules before you buy.
How long does UV Plus last?
Per Messmer's: about 1 to 2 years on decks, 2 to 3 years on vertical smooth surfaces, and 3 to 4 years on rough vertical surfaces, depending on sun and weather.
Can I stain pressure-treated lumber?
Yes. Messmer's says to wait several weeks on new pressure-treated installations so the wood can dry thoroughly before staining, and lists its products as suitable for older CCA and newer ACQ and copper azole lumber.
