All Purpose Wood Filler, Natural, 3 oz
The 3 oz size is the small one in DAP's Plastic Wood All Purpose range, which runs up to a 32 oz tub, and it suits nail holes in trim, a dinged chair rung or a gouge in a cabinet door. DAP makes it as a latex-based, knife-grade paste meant to look and act like real wood. Once dry it can be sanded, planed, cut, drilled, nailed or screwed, holds screws and nails firmly, and resists shrinking, cracking and crumbling. Low odor, water cleanup, inside or outside.
Free shipping at $75, no code needed (lower 48 + DC). Unopened items can be returned within 30 days of delivery, and we send a prepaid return label (refund policy).
Filling a hole step by step (DAP data sheet)
- Clean and dry the spot; de-gloss shiny paint for better grip. Work between 40 and 100 F.
- Knead the tube before you cut the tip, so the paste is uniform.
- Press it in firmly with a putty knife, overfilling slightly for sanding and settling, and keep it off the surrounding surface.
- Most repairs take one fill. Over 1/4 inch deep, build in thin layers and let each dry.
- Sand once fully dry, then paint or stain.
Paste properties
- Latex polymer vehicle, inert pigment filler, water as the volatile.
- Solids 78.9% by weight; mild odor; stiff paste that can be molded on corners and vertical or unsupported edges.
- Shelf life 12 months; keep the cap tight, store cool and dry, and don't let it freeze.
Outdoor repairs, or any that will see water, must be sealed with a waterproof coating before getting wet. Wipe wet filler off tools with a damp cloth; once dry it has to be sanded or scraped. DAP backs it with a limited warranty: if it fails when used as directed, call 888-DAP-TIPS within a year of purchase with the receipt and container. A putty knife makes the job easier. For a larger supply see the Natural pint; for a fill that shows when it's dry, Plastic Wood-X with DryDex.

Questions
How long before I can sand it? DAP says about 3 to 6 hours for shallow fills up to 1/8 inch and up to 36 hours for fills 1/4 inch and deeper, depending on temperature and humidity. Sand with medium sandpaper.
Will the filler take stain? It is stainable, but DAP recommends testing the filler with your stain on scrap wood first, and staining the wood before you fill. Then use the stain to blend the dried filler into the finish.
Can I paint right after sanding? With latex paint, yes, immediately after sanding. With oil-based paint, DAP says to wait 12 hours.
