DAP Wallboard Joint Compound is a ready-to-use joint compound for smooth, high-quality finishing of gypsum panel (drywall) joints. DAP says it is preferred by professionals for embedding reinforcing tape and finishing joints, nail heads and metal corner beads, with minimal shrinkage and crack resistance. It can also patch and texture interior walls. The 3 lb tub is sized for small repairs, a patch or a short run of seams.

How to use (taped joints)
- Make sure the surface is clean, dry and sound. Set nails about 1/32 in below the panel face. Stir the compound.
- Spread compound evenly with a clean putty knife, filling the gap and covering 2 to 4 in on each side of the joint.
- Center joint tape over the joint and press it into the wet compound with a 5 in knife. Remove the excess and cover the tape with a thin layer. Spot nail heads at the same time.
- Let dry about 24 hours, then wet sand with a damp sponge.
- Apply a second coat with a 10 in knife, feathering 2 in past the first. Dry and wet sand. Apply a third coat 2 in wider again, dry about 24 hours and wet sand.
- When completely dry, prime and paint.
For texture, apply compound with a brush or roller and texture right away with a roller, sponge, stiff brush or crumpled paper. Areas that will see water must be sealed with a waterproof coating first.
Good to know
Wiping while wet can leave smears; let the compound dry thoroughly before sanding. Wash tools with water right after use, keep the lid tight and store the tub somewhere cool and dry. See the label and SDS for safety information.
