Pink means wait, white means ready. DAP DryDex Spackling in the 5.5 oz squeeze tube changes color as it dries, so you can see when a patched nail hole, crack or dent is ready to sand and paint. DAP rates it for drywall, plaster, wood, brick and stone, indoors or out, and says the paste will not shrink, crack, crumble or flake.

Free shipping at $75, no code needed (lower 48 + DC). Free 30-day returns with a prepaid label. Returned items must be unused and unopened; opened paint, aerosols and flammable liquids can't be returned (refund policy).

How to use it

  1. Make sure the surface is clean, dry and free of loose material.
  2. Knead the tube, remove the cap and cut the nozzle to the opening size you want.
  3. Apply with a clean putty knife. One application usually fills a small repair; for repairs deeper than 1/8 in, apply thin layers and let each dry fully.
  4. For a smoother patch, dip the putty knife in water and lightly smooth the spackling.
  5. When it turns white, sand (DAP recommends wet sanding to avoid dust) and paint. Outdoors, always topcoat with a good exterior paint.
  6. Clean tools right away with water, and keep the cap tight so the color indicator keeps working.

Questions

How long does DryDex take to dry? DAP lists 1 to 5 hours, depending on temperature, humidity and depth of fill. Wait until the pink has turned fully white before sanding or painting.

Do I need to prime over it? No. DAP says DryDex needs no primer. Outdoors, always topcoat the patch with a good exterior paint.

What should I not use it for? DAP says not to use it on floors, as a skim coat, for tuck pointing brick, or as a caulk over cracks and joints that expand and contract.
