Varathane Charred Wood Accelerator creates a weathered, rustic brown look on bare or untreated wood. It reacts with the tannins in the wood to replicate natural aging, so every piece comes out one of a kind. It works on all wood types, and the final look varies with the wood. The water-based formula is low odor.

How to apply
- Remove existing finishes with sandpaper or stripper. Sand bare wood with the grain using 100 grit and wipe off the dust.
- Stir or shake well. Brush on and let it sit 30 minutes to 1 hour for the final effect; wiping is not required.
- For a lighter look, wipe immediately or lightly sand once dry. To darken, apply a second coat after 1 hour.
- Wait 2 hours, then topcoat. Rust-Oleum suggests Watco lacquer spray, or seal with lacquer before a Varathane polyurethane.
Good to know
Not for outdoor surfaces or floors; wood only. Test on a hidden spot first, because results vary by wood type and some topcoats may keep reacting. To remove it, apply bleach and wipe off. Clean up with soap and water. Read the Charred Wood Accelerator technical data sheet.
