Zinsser Peel Stop Triple Thick is a high-build, water-based acrylic binding primer that locks down peeling paint and seals cracked, worn and weathered surfaces. Zinsser says it goes on three times thicker than regular primers and can be applied up to 30 mils wet per coat, so it fills and seals cracks and leaves a smoother, more uniform base for paint. It dries white and can be painted with any latex or alkyd paint in 2 hours. Apply it between 40 and 90 F. This is the quart, which covers about 12 to 50 sq ft from Zinsser's 50 to 200 sq ft per gallon. It also comes in a gallon here.

FAQ
How is Peel Stop Triple Thick different from regular Peel Stop?
Both are Zinsser water-based binding primers that glue down peeling paint and take any latex or alkyd topcoat. Regular Peel Stop (Zinsser Peel Stop Clear Binding Sealer) goes on clear, soaks into chalky and peeling paint, and covers 300 to 400 sq ft per gallon. Triple Thick dries white and builds up to 30 mils wet per coat to fill cracks and smooth weathered paint, so it covers 50 to 200 sq ft per gallon. We sell regular Peel Stop in quart and gallon.
What sizes does Peel Stop Triple Thick come in?
Zinsser makes it in quart (260925), gallon (260924) and 5-gallon (260927). We sell this quart and the gallon.
How much does a quart of Peel Stop Triple Thick cover?
Zinsser rates it at 50 to 200 sq ft per gallon, depending on how thick you apply it and how porous the surface is. That works out to about 12 to 50 sq ft per quart. Thick coats to fill cracks land at the low end.
How long before I can paint over it, and what weather can I apply it in?
Zinsser says it dries to the touch in 30 minutes and can be painted in 2 hours at 70 to 80 F and 50 percent humidity. Rust-Oleum adds that a full 30 mil wet coat can take 3 hours to dry to the touch and 6 hours before recoating. Apply it only when air, material and surface are between 40 and 90 F, the surface is at least 5 F above the dew point, and humidity is 85 percent or less. Outdoors, do not apply if rain is expected within 8 hours.
Does Peel Stop Triple Thick block stains?
No. Zinsser says to use a stain-blocking primer such as Cover-Stain or B-I-N over water stains or bleeding woods. Peel Stop Triple Thick is for binding peeling paint and building a smooth surface.
Can I use it instead of caulk, filler or drywall mud?
No. Zinsser says it is not a substitute for wood filler, caulk or drywall mud, and it is not for floors, decks, surfaces under water or below grade, or polyethylene, polypropylene, Teflon or nylon.
How do I apply it over badly peeled paint?
Scrape off loose paint first. For severely peeled surfaces Zinsser says to thin the first coat with 10 percent water and work it into the peeling paint, then follow with full coats up to 30 mils wet. Zinsser says one coat primes most surfaces.
