Copper-Green

Copper-Green wood preservative for exterior wood exposed to weather, soil, or moisture. Copper-Green is made by Green Products Co. of Richmond, California, and is registered with the U.S. EPA as Copper Green Wood Preservative (EPA Reg. No. 66591-1). The line is designed for above-ground, ground-contact, and below-water-line exterior wood protection. This brand collection covers Copper-Green products currently in the store.

Per Green Products technical materials, Copper-Green is a copper naphthenate and hydrocarbon-solvent preservative with 10% copper naphthenate (about 1% elemental copper) and a listed VOC of about 350 g/L. The copper reacts with wood cellulose and is not easily leached, helping extend service life against rot, fungi, decay, mold, and wood-eating insects. Maker guidance covers brush, dip-soak, or pressure impregnation for exterior use only, including posts, decks, fences, sills, trellises, outdoor furniture, and other wood in ground contact or weather exposure. Coverage for a brush coat is listed at about 150 to 200 sq ft per gallon. Oil or alkyd finishes may go over dried preservative after about 48 hours.

FAQ

What is Copper-Green?

Green Products describes Copper-Green as a copper naphthenate wood preservative that protects exterior wood from rot, fungi, decay, mold, and wood-eating insects.

Is it for interior wood?

No. Maker materials specify exterior use only and list applications such as posts, decks, fences, sills, and other weather- or soil-exposed wood.

Copper Green vs Copper Brown?

Both are Copper-Green preservative colors. Copper Green has the characteristic green cast from the copper fungicide; Copper Brown is the brown alternate of the same preservative system.

Can I stain or paint over it?

Maker guidance allows oil or alkyd stains or paints after thorough drying (about 48 hours). The green cast may bleed through lighter colors and fades with sunlight; it is not intended as a decorative stain.
