General Finishes Liquid Oil Stain, Antique Cherry, Half Pint
General Finishes Liquid Oil Stain in Antique Cherry, Half Pint, brings penetrating, wipe-on color to raw interior wood. This half-pint can covers about 45–50 sq ft, depending on the wood and application. Test the full stain-and-topcoat combination first: species, preparation and topcoat affect the final color.
Features
- Thin liquid stain accentuates the wood's natural grain.
- Wipe-on application suits furniture, cabinet parts and detailed trim.
- A second coat can deepen color after the first dries fully.
- Accepts a compatible oil- or water-based topcoat with the required drying time.
Best for
Raw wood furniture, cabinets, doors and trim indoors. Compare the Antique Cherry swatches on different woods, then test on your project. This penetrating stain is not for an existing finish or a non-wood surface.

How to apply
- Sand open-grain wood with 120, then 150, then 180 grit; sand closed-grain wood no finer than 180 grit. Remove dust and test color. Over-sanding limits absorption.
- Ventilate and stir thoroughly before and throughout use. Finish one manageable section at a time. Apply an even wet coat, then wipe excess with the grain. Pull pools from details. Correct lap marks immediately by rewetting the whole working area and wiping again.
- Allow at least 24 hours before another stain coat. These times assume about 70°F and 50% humidity; wait longer if cool, humid or tacky.
- Seal fully dry stain with three coats of a compatible topcoat. Wait at least 72 hours, and until fully dry, before applying a water-based topcoat over this oil stain.
Good to know
On blotch-prone wood, a separate initial coat of Pre-Stain Conditioner Natural may improve uniformity but reduces color absorption. Oil-based topcoats can amber; test your choice. This dated SDS VOC value differs from the current manufacturer web chart. Confirm the matching can and data before choosing for a VOC limit. Read the Antique Cherry safety data sheet and label. DANGER: flammable liquid and vapor; may cause cancer; may be fatal if swallowed and entering airways. Follow label protection and ventilation instructions. Immediately put soaked applicators in a sealed, water-filled metal container; follow local fire disposal rules.
