General Finishes Glaze Effects, Smokey Gray, Pint
General Finishes Glaze Effects in Smokey Gray, Pint, adds translucent water-based color to decorative interior finishes. Plan about 60–80 sq ft from this pint can, depending on application and surface. Use over a sealed finish such as Milk Paint or a compatible topcoat; test the whole finish system and protect the glaze with clear topcoat.
Features
- Translucent color adds depth to decorative finishes.
- A glaze can accent details without hiding the whole base color.
- An optional clear undercoat improves placement control.
- Brush, pad or roller application allows hand-finished effects.
Best for
Interior sealed furniture, cabinets, trim and doors. Raw wood is not recommended. The manufacturer examples show this glaze over named paints or stains; they are combined-finish references, not promises of the same result on every surface.

How to apply
- Lightly sand a newly sealed finish with a 220–320-grit foam sponge and remove dust. For an existing finish, scuff-clean with a non-woven pad and a 50:50 denatured alcohol/water mix. Dry 1–2 hours, sand lightly with 220–320 grit, remove dust and test adhesion.
- For more placement control, first apply one compatible High Performance clear coat. Stir glaze thoroughly before and during use. Apply a liberal coat with a brush, pad or microfiber roller, then remove excess with an absorbent cloth, good paper towel or dry brush.
- Dry at least three hours between glaze coats and before a water-based topcoat, until dry. Specifications also list a one-hour minimum; this application follows the longer detailed directions. Sand lightly between coats; avoid conventional steel wool and absorbency-poor T-shirts.
- Protect with three compatible GF topcoat coats. Allow 24 hours or longer before an oil-based product. An underlying oil finish needs 72 hours or longer before this water-based glaze. Cool, humid or thick applications need longer drying.
